As a parent, we are sure that you are aware of the link between a good breakfast and a good day for your child. Given the amount of conflicting information available, though, it can be exhausting trying to work out what is ‘good food’. The Tutoring Center in Orlando would like to suggest a few breakfasts that will set you child up for a great day at school.

Eggs are a great source of protein and make for some delicious breakfasts. The high levels of protein will help keep your child feeling full right through until lunchtime. Try scrambled eggs on whole grain toast for a hearty, healthy start to your child’s day. If you’re feeling decadent, and for additional nutrition, you could try adding flaked salmon (rich in vital healthy fats and omega 3).

Oatmeal is a fantastic way to start the day. It’s a complex carbohydrate, which simply means that it will release energy steadily over the course of the school day which will help your child concentrate. Oatmeal is also rich in fiber (great for digestion) and is richer in protein than most other grains. Make it creamier by cooking with milk or yogurt rather than water, and try adding fresh fruit or other healthy toppings.

Yogurt makes for an excellent breakfast as long as you are careful to buy the right type. Avoid sugary flavored yogurts, and check the packaging to see that you aren’t getting short-changed in terms of protein. Greek yogurt is the best choice, as it contains up to five times as much protein and more calcium than other varieties. Add fresh fruit and/or granola and you’re ready to go!

While you are in the process of finding some new and nutritious breakfasts for your child, we hope that you too will find some new favorites. Remember that your child looks up to you, and the more excited you are about eating healthily, the more likely it is that your child will get on board.

Breakfast isn’t the only thing you can provide for your child, of course; The Tutoring Center offers free diagnostic assessments to pinpoint areas in which your child could benefit from extra academic support. Our tutors can then help provide your child with every opportunity to excel, tailored to fit their learning style.
