How can you tell if an egg is raw or boiled? Try this experiment to find out. All you need is two eggs, one hard boiled and one raw. Make sure the hard boiled egg has cooled enough and is the same temperature as the raw egg. Take a second to hypothesise how you could tell the difference between the two eggs with your child. Spin one egg and observe what happens. Now spin the other egg and see if it acts differently. One egg should spin and the other one should wobble. Also, if you touch each egg while it is spinning, one egg will stop quickly and the other one will keep moving after you touched it.

Reasoning

The raw egg has a center of gravity that changes because the white and yolk move around the inside of the shell, this causes the egg to wobble while it spins. After you touch the raw egg while it is spinning it will keep moving. The raw egg has inertia that keeps the egg moving after you touch it. Inertia can be felt in a car, when your body wants to keep moving when the car does something different. Like when a car stops suddenly and your body wants to keep moving forward. The hard boiled egg will respond faster when you touch it because the inside is solid and does not have inertia like the raw egg. The hard boiled egg has a fixed center of gravity and will spin easily.
